Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

Smillee AI (smillee.com) is built to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, rely on magnification, or need reduced motion. Accessibility is treated as part of how the site is built rather than something added afterwards, and every change to the interface is expected to keep it that way.

2. Conformance status

The site is built to conform to Israeli Standard IS 5568 at level AA, the standard adopted by the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Accessibility Adjustments to Service) Regulations, 5773–2013. IS 5568 adopts the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG); the site is built against WCAG 2.1 level AA, which includes everything WCAG 2.0 AA requires.

3. What has been done

• Keyboard operation: every control — the chat composer, the sidebar, conversation history, menus and dialogs — can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone. Dialogs and the mobile menu close with Esc and return focus to where you were.
• Visible focus: the element you are on always carries a visible outline, on every background in the design.
• Skip to content: the first item you reach with Tab on any page jumps past the navigation straight to the main content.
• Structure: pages use real headings, lists and landmark regions, so a screen reader can navigate by structure instead of reading top to bottom.
• Contrast: text meets at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background throughout, including the small secondary text.
• Streaming answers: replies stream in a word at a time visually. For screen readers, a status region announces that a reply is being written and then reads the finished answer once, rather than re-reading a paragraph that is still growing.
• Reduced motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, entrance animations, the drifting suggestion strips and other decorative movement stop.
• Text and zoom: the layout is responsive and reflows to 200% zoom and to narrow screens without loss of content or horizontal scrolling.
• Images and icons: icons that carry meaning have text labels; purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers so they are not read out as noise.
• Right-to-left text: messages, conversation titles and the composer detect direction automatically, so Hebrew and Arabic display correctly alongside English.

4. Known limitations

We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist. We are working on them.

• AI-generated answers: the content of a reply is produced by a language model in real time. Its wording, reading level and structure are not something we can review in advance, and an answer may occasionally be laid out in a way that is harder to follow than the rest of the site.
• Generated images: images created by the image model are described by the prompt that produced them. That prompt is not always a good alternative text for what the picture actually shows.
• Linked pages and cited sources: when an answer cites the web, the pages it links to belong to other organisations and their accessibility is outside our control.
• Advertising: ad content is supplied by third-party ad networks. We control where the slot sits and how it is labelled, but not the markup inside it.
• Sign-in: signing in uses Google's own authentication screens, which are governed by Google's accessibility practices. Note that the site is fully usable without signing in.

5. Technical notes

The site relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and on WAI-ARIA where a plain HTML element cannot express the behaviour. It is built to work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop and mobile, together with the screen readers commonly paired with them (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack). JavaScript is required for the chat itself; the reading pages — the blog, the guides and pages like this one — are server-rendered.

6. Accessibility coordinator and feedback

If you run into something you cannot use, or something that works badly with your assistive technology, please tell us. Describing the page and what happened helps us reproduce it quickly. We aim to respond within a few business days.
